University Reacts To An Absurd Liberal Demand

The war on Christianity continues.

The Founding Fathers created our most sacred documents to reflect the faith of the American people, and to protect them from religious persecution by an overreaching government.

Now liberal intolerance of Christianity is spreading like wildfire, and a recent issue at an Oklahoma university is but the latest in a series of attacks on Christian students.

East Central University near Oklahoma City immediately reacted to liberal demands that Bibles and crosses be removed from the student chapel.

Without discussing the move with the student body or holding a campus meeting, the religious objects were removed due to a letter sent to campus administration.

The letter, which was the first complaint received by the university, was just another example of the bullying tactics used by liberal students who are “offended” by the Christian values at the foundation of our nation.

The Washington Post reported:

The university made the decision after it received a letter from Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, which on June 20 noted that the chapel includes displays of Latin crosses on the top of and inside the building, Bibles and a Christian altar.

The university president] said the university had removed some items from the chapel, which is used for gatherings of various religious groups, student clubs and events, to show support for all cultures and religious beliefs. In a statement on Thursday, [it was] said the school was “looking at the feasibility” of removing the cross from the chapel’s steeple, according to the Associated Press.

“While it is legal for a public university to have a space that can be used by students for religious worship so long as that space is not dedicated solely to that purpose, it is a violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to display religious iconography on government property,” the letter states. “Please remove or cover the religious displays and items.”

Because of one complaint, campus administration acted without consideration of what the majority of students wanted, succumbing to the liberal complaint out of fear of legal action.

The irony of the request – that the presence of the religious objects violates the Constitution — is but another example of the left twisting constitutional law to meet their own needs.

The fact is, the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was created to protect all from religious persecution, so that no one group could demand that another faith not express their religious beliefs.

No other religious body on campus was targeted in the letter, even though all faiths are represented on campus in various groups, activities, and presentations.

Due to an outcry from Christian students, and realizing they acted in haste to meet the demands of one liberal group, campus administration is now reviewing the action.

In a case of too little, too late, administrators have called for a campus meeting to get the viewpoint of the entire body of students and faculty — something that should have been done prior to any action in response to the letter.

The Washington Post reported:

“We moved too quickly,” Katricia Pierson, president of the university, said in a statement. “We regret not taking time to pause and thoughtfully consider the request and the results of our actions on all of the students, faculty and community members who we serve.”

At an American university where all cultures and faiths are supposedly respected, this latest attack on Christianity shows just how intolerant the left is on any views but their own.
