- Pacific Newts
Pacific Newts are called such because they belong to a special class that is found on the Pacific coast of North America.
While the newt is mainly brown or black, it has a colorful belly that it exposes when it is being threatened to warn of its poison.
If they are ingested, the predator who wished to ignore the newts warning dies shortly after the meal.
The rough-skinned newt has even been recorded to have killed a human with its toxin, which is deadly when touched or ingested.
Newts look like friendly pets, because they are often available in pet stores, but warn your children of their dangers when played with.
