Know Why Pregnancy In The Summer Is A Bumpy Road

 Symptoms are magnified

Nausea is something most pregnant women experience at some point during the 40 weeks of gestation.

Heat can be a trigger for nausea, thus exacerbating an already less than ideal situation.

If you vomit every time you try and take the kids to the pool, try to go early mornings or have your husband take them for a dip.

Edema is often worse in the summer heat as well. Swelling up like the unfortunate blueberry girl in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory doesn’t exactly pair well with a maternity bathing suit.

New York City nutritionist Lara Englebardt Metz, MS, RD, CDN, told The Bump:

To help reduce swelling, make an effort to keep your legs up whenever you can—even in the office. Simple foot and ankle exercises can also help, and try to lay off the salt.”

If you are still swollen after putting your feet up, Metz says that you can eat “watercress, celery, citrus fruits or small bits of parsley, which may act as natural diuretics”, according to The Bump.
