Know Why Pregnancy In The Summer Is A Bumpy Road

It is hard to stay hydrated

When your body is a constant sweat factory, you seem to lose water faster than you can replenish it.

Not to mention that when you are pregnant your water intake requirement is amplified, even without the waterfall down your aching back.

Metz reports on the water necessities to maintain a healthy pregnancy:

Ordinarily, you should try to drink at least 10 cups (2.3 liters) of liquids every day, but in the summer, you need to add 8 ounces for every hour you spend in the heat, since that’s about the amount you’ll be sweating out”

Basically, if you are going to be outside, or anywhere the air conditioning isn’t cranked to arctic temperatures, you need to be constantly sipping on something.

So, get creative with your mocktails, and fruit infused water to ensure hydration stays interesting.

Being pregnant in the summer is no easy feat, but you are strong and capable to make it through the heated months to your goal of a healthy baby.

Try to stay positive, despite feeling like you may be physically melting, and cut yourself some slack when it comes to your normal summer schedule.

The pregnancy may even give you a summer where you have an excuse to actually relax in the pool or on the couch with a good book, while your husband takes the kids outside for an epic water balloon fight.
