Liberals Cry “Racism” And Seek To Eradicate This Timeless Children’s Award

Social Justice Warriors are at it again, and this time their seeking to change a prestigious children’s award.

Deciding yet again they are “offended”, they’re trying to tarnish one of the best children’s authors of all time and paint her into a racist.

And even worse, a shocking decision by a group of leftist librarians took place last weekend, and opened up the can for a dangerous new precedent.

Laura Ingalls Wilder is a beloved author, and countless children grew up reading her ‘Little House On the Prairie’ series.

Little House On The Prairie was such a hit, a 1970’s show was even introduced telling the story, and attracting a wider audience.

The book represented everything wholesome and pure about America, after all, who could resist a farmgirl and the day to day struggles Laura endured with her family.

Through sickness and health, the story focuses on the importance of family to stick together, no matter what.

In 1954, an award was established on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s behalf, honoring the contribution she made to children’s literature.

When she received the award in person, at the sweet old age of 84, it was said for years to come, this award would be given to other authors who also made a lasting impact and contribution to children.

But in a hasty decision, The Association for Library Services to Children(ALSC) recently decided to eliminate Laura Ingalls name from the award, and change it to the name “Children’s Literature Legacy Award.

Even worse, ALSC went on to slander and insult this legendary author, attempting to portray her as a hateful, and racist bigot.

The National Review reported:

“This decision was made in consideration of the fact that Wilder’s legacy, as represented by her body of work, includes expressions of stereotypical attitudes inconsistent with ALSC’s core values of inclusiveness, integrity and respect, and responsiveness,” according to the statement on the organization’s website.

The ALSC’s renaming of the Wilder medal to the Children’s Literature Legacy Award erases the fundamental role Wilder played in creating the genre of juvenile fiction. Wilder’s work and its lasting impact on every generation of children since the publication of Little House in the Big Woods (1932) served as the impetus for the establishment of the award.”

They could have made a new award, but instead they changed the prestigious award to send the message that social justice warriors and whining liberals are in control of children.

All because some people were “offended.”

The hypocrisy of the left is striking.

As Mommy Underground previously reported, one local library set up an entire page listing off all the “transgender” stories available to children.

As if encouraging a 5-year old to be “transgender” is somehow beneficial, but the classic tale of Little House On The Prairie is harmful.

It’s apparent LGBT activists and social justice warriors are now calling the shots on what literature is “permissible” to children.

But liberals need to back off our children, and stop trying to replace classic children’s tales, with sickening perverted content.

Do you think Little House On The Prairie is a “racist” series, and should be condemned?
