One City’s Mothers Plan To Fight Back Will Only Cause More Violence

The U.S. recently celebrated our freedoms and liberties during the Independence Day holiday.

As the nation continues to be divided on key issues, the Fourth of July weekend brought shocking violence in one city that fuels the fire of the left’s agenda.

And in typical fashion, they don’t have their facts straight in their mission to undermine one of our most basic constitutional rights.

Over the weekend following the Independence Day holiday, 102 people were shot in Chicago, Illinois, with 15 fatalities.

Chicago experiences more incidents of gun violence than New York and Los Angeles combined.  And yet they have some of the strictest gun regulations in the country.

So why does the left continue to think guns are the problem?  And why do Chicago residents protest for more gun control when they have one of the highest numbers of homicides committed with firearms in the nation?

Last year following the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders addressed calls by the left for strict gun control regulations saying,

“I think if you look to Chicago, where you had over 4,000 victims of gun-related crimes last year, they have the strictest gun laws in the country. That certainly hasn’t helped there.”

Chicago saw over 4,000 gun-related homicides in 2016 alone.  It is one of only five states that prohibits carrying a handgun in open view, and that’s even for citizens who hold a permit that is extremely hard to come by.

Gun owners must be registered with the state and have a FOID (Firearms Owner Identification) card.  Even with that, they must additionally apply for a concealed carry permit which has strict requirements of its own, including training classes, extensive background checks, waiting periods, and a hefty price tag.

Gun shops and ranges have been mostly prohibited within the city limits, and Illinois does not recognize the concealed carry permits of out-of-state visitors.

Yet, as the violence of the Fourth of July weekend proved, Chicago residents are dying in gun crimes at unprecedented rates.

One of the victims was 21-year-old Aaron Gordon, shot in the face in his vehicle while his two young cousins narrowly missed the gunfire sitting in the backseat of the car.

And his grandmother, Patricia Jones, is calling for all mothers to remove guns from their homes.

Chicago’s ABC affiliate station reported:

“Mothers, I challenge you to take the guns out of your children’s hands. I challenge you, women, to put the guns out of your homes,” said Patricia Jones, Gordon’s grandmother. “We are outliving our youth.”

But, yet again, the false narrative that gun control leads to less gun violence is pervasive.

Tamar Manasseh, another Chicago mother, is the president of Mothers Against Senseless Killings (MASK).  She hopes that mothers in the city will take the lead in ending gun violence by getting rid of the guns in Chicago.

But police and city prosecutors state that the city is overrun by illegal guns stolen by street gangs and drug dealers.  The black market gun trade is a booming business on Chicago’s streets.

And ridding Chicago’s homes of guns will only serve to allow more gang members and other criminals to murder innocent children.  Chicago’s families must have the ability to protect themselves and their children in their homes, something these women don’t seem to understand.

Our nation’s gun-related homicides are overwhelmingly committed by criminals who are not legally able to purchase or own firearms.  And criminals are not going to obey gun laws.

The left’s promise that strict gun control will reduce crime is a complete falsehood.  Gun control only limits the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against criminals who have no regard for the law.

Following the tragic weekend of violence in Chicago, leftist protestors led by religious leaders like notoriously liberal Reverend Jesse Jackson stopped traffic on a major highway.

They were encouraged by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the city’s police superintendent.

But Illinois’ Republican Governor Bruce Rauner was furious, stating that the protesters were only permitted to stand on the shoulder of the road.  Traffic was at a standstill for hours.

Rauner called the situation “unacceptable,” and said he was disappointed in Emanuel’s improper handling of the situation.  Emanuel fired back in the childish retort of the left, telling Rauner to “delete your [Twitter] account.”

For now, the left continues their assault on the Second Amendment with this latest protest as more of Chicago’s innocent citizens continue to die at the hands of criminals and gang members with stolen guns.

The mothers of Chicago who are banding together in a call to remove guns from homes are under the false impression that it will stop the violence.

Criminals will continue to commit gun violence, they will continue to find a way to get guns, and the only way to fight back is for law-abiding families to protect themselves with their right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

What do you think of the Chicago mothers who are calling to have guns removed from homes?
