Politicians Threaten To Jail Parents And Teachers For Opening Private Christian Schools

The media scare campaign has made some school officials terrified to resume school in the fall.

Many schools around the country are opting for virtual learning, or some sort of “bizarre” hybrid combination.

But then there are many private and Christian schools who refuse to remain controlled by fear- and are perfectly comfortable opening up their doors this fall.

These schools still agreed to follow CDC guidelines, and felt strongly about children being able to learn in person.

One would think a private school should have the right to open up their doors if they choose, right?

Just like every parent has the right to send their child to school, if they decide that is the best course of action for their family.

Well in Maryland… politicians and health officials seemed to disagree.

Montgomery County Maryland is located just outside of Washington, D.C. and once Montgomery County health officer Dr. Travis Gayles learned some schools wanted to open – he tried to prevent it by threatening to lock up parents and school officials.

LifeSite News reported:

“A person who knowingly and willfully violates this Order or any Local Order is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding $5,000 or both,” Gayles’ order warned.

Really?

You’re going to throw mom in jail for sending her daughter to school?

Typically, in most liberal counties this warning would have stood and parents and schools would have been forced to surrender.

Thankfully, Maryland’s Governor (who happens to be a Republican) was not about to let this happen in his state.

The Governor issued an emergency order stating local schools have the authority to decide when and if they’ll open.

In a press release Maryland Governor Larry Hogan stated:

“The recovery plan for Maryland public schools stresses local flexibility within the parameters set by state officials. Over the last several weeks, school boards and superintendents made their own decisions about how and when to reopen public schools, after consultation with state and local health officials.

“Private and parochial schools deserve the same opportunity and flexibility to make reopening decisions based on public health guidelines. The blanket closure mandate imposed by Montgomery County was overly broad and inconsistent with the powers intended to be delegated to the county health officer.”

Thankfully, common sense won.

Out-of-control bureaucrats will continue to use their power as far as they can until they are stopped.

Many moms are still making the choice to homeschool their children, even though leftists claim they are “inadequate” to do so.

But for those moms who wish to send their children to school in person – they have every right.

Just as schools have the right to open their doors should they choose.

One can expect more threats in the fall as people try and resume their lives.

Let’s hope enough good politicians stand up and fight on behalf of the people.
