Distractions
I am not promoting electronic devices here, but do suggest you keep some things that your kids can entertain themselves with in your diaper bag in case you get stuck waiting somewhere.
Books and a couple small toys are great options. Only a couple books will do, because they can really start to weigh you down if you have too many.
Trade out the toys and books occasionally so they don’t get bored with the selection.
Snacks
Nothing gets a child riled up faster than being hungry, and on the flip side nothing calms a child down as quick as a tasty snack.
Keep ample delights in store just in case you are out past meal time or a growth spurt has your little one eating more than a grown man.
