Heroic 12-Year Old Boy Saves Toddler From A Hot Locked Car

There’s nothing more tragic than hearing yet another story of an innocent child who lost their life suffering from heatstroke in the backseat of a hot car.

But thanks to the heroic actions of a brave 12-year old boy, one toddler’s life was spared due to his quick thinking.

And once you hear the story of this amazing rescue – your heart is bound to be touched.

It all started on a hot summer day when the 12-year old boy and his mom were out for the day and saw a crying child trapped inside a locked car.

In fact, Fox News 23 reported the heat index was 116 degrees that day.

Upon discovering the distressed child, this amazing 12-year old child didn’t hesitate and immediately sprung into action and literally broke the windshield to save this 2-year old little boy.

The New York Post reported:

“Ben Theriot, the Good Samaritan, came to the rescue with a ratchet strap from his mother’s car.

“I started hitting the side window, didn’t bust, bent it pretty badly,” he said.

“I swung over my shoulder, hit it right in the center. And then I hit it a couple more times and then I climbed on the windshield,” Theriot added. “I stomped on it and then it cracked pretty badly again. Then, the lady went and grabbed that hanger thing and then I put the hook into the windshield and pulled it out. And then I unlocked it.”

Thankfully, the 2-year old child wasn’t injured, although Fox News 23 reported the toddler was found to be red-faced and upset, likely from the trauma of being stuck inside a hot car.

Authorities were called, and the police found the mother shopping inside a store where she claimed she thought someone else was with the child.

She received a small $250 fine – and that was the extent of it.

It’s unconscionable to think a parent or caregiver could “forget” a child in a car – but it happens more frequently than one would think.

In fact, according to the National Safety Council, within the past 20 years, 2018 was the deadliest – with a record number of children needlessly dying from being trapped inside a hot car.

Sometimes adults don’t forget, and  may be well-intended to not want to wake up their sleeping child and just run into the store “quickly” – not realizing how the inside of the car is like a furnace and can quickly kill their precious child.

We can no longer assume people simply know better than to leave their child in a car – we must spread the word and keep the dialogue open on this life or death topic.

If you are caring for a child – never leave a child alone in a car – not even for a moment!

Do whatever you need to do – keep your wallet or phone near the car seat so you “remember” the child when you get out of the car.
