Increase Your Child’s Social Skills With These Easy To Follow Steps

  1. Provide tools for social skills

A child with sensory needs doesn’t pick up on social cues well. Going over scenarios where social skills are needed will help them navigate interactions more effectively.

In the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Susan Spence wrote an article titled, “Teaching Social Skills To Children” in which she says:

The components of Social Skills training are traditionally instructions and discussions, modeling and role playing, coaching, feedback, social reinforcement and social tasks.”

If your child is just nervous about starting a conversation with a new acquaintance, give them some topics that can get the ball rolling, and role-play how that would look.

Practicing social interaction makes the job less daunting and more natural for any child.
