You are there to help mom just as much, if not more, than to see the new baby.
Offer to watch the baby while she showers or takes a nap.
Many moms may not feel comfortable with this at first. Try to reassure her that you and baby will be okay and that she deserves to take care of herself too.
But do not push if she says no. Read the room.
