New York Mayor Approves Massive Funding For Police After Crime Spike

In yet another illogical move, radical activists are demanding government officials diminish funds for their local and state police departments.

Some citizens have even called for their local police departments to be eradicated completely.

But what happens when the police presence has been reduced and departments financially stifled? One city found out the hard way and is going back on their outrageous requests.

Many legislators were bullied into making budget cuts to their local and state police departments to appease the angry masses.

The irony is that many who were demanding police have their equipment or jobs stripped were actually breaking various laws to have their voices heard – like rioting, looting, and assaulting anyone who disagreed with their ideology.

And New York City is notorious for caving into every liberal demand – from allowing students to skip school to protest, to giving mothers easy access to kill their unborn children.

But after four victims, including a 4-year-old girl, was shot in Times Square earlier this month, reports The Daily Wire, New York City’s mayor Bill de Blasio agreed to allow an additional police in the city’s tourist centers.

In addition to deploying more officers to tourist centers, Mayor de Blasio is also approving a “$105 million expenditure for a new police precinct after killing the project in a bid to “defund the NYPD last year,” according to The Daily Wire.

The Mayor was all but willing to accommodate the mobs who wanted to operate unhindered by law enforcement – until it began effecting the city’s bottom line.

But when innocent people are getting shot while visiting the Big Apple and a multimillion-dollar tourism industry becomes compromised – no mayor can have that, regardless of his lack of moral convictions!

In an interview with Reuters, de Blasio said there will be an “additional presence” of police officers in Times Square to ensure visitors feel safe.

Because, let’s face it, the public is going to feel much safer with a trained police officer around.

Politico reports more on the “defund the police” promises de Blasio has now reversed:

Other elements of the NYPD budget cuts pledged by de Blasio and the City Council have also been scuttled. They announced that school safety agents would be moved out of the NYPD, but budget documents showed they actually remain within the police department. The same was true for school crossing guards. An NYPD overtime cap imposed as part of the budget cut deal is expected to be missed by hundreds of millions of dollars.”

According to Gothamist, New York has experienced a drastic rise in crime and is amidst the worst gun violence epidemic in years.

Just last year, shootings rose a shocking 97%, reports the news outlet.

If that isn’t a sure sign that a police presence is desperately needed, consider the 54% increase in people who have been shot or the 92 murders that took place last year – a 19.5% jump.

People are sinful by nature and have always needed a means by which they are held accountable for their actions.

Law enforcement does that!

Without these checks and balances, society would run itself into the ground – as we’ve see with all emotionally-charged liberal ideologies.

Thankfully, de Blasio had enough sense to realize that where the cops aren’t present, crime is.
