Sanctuary Laws Are Putting California Families In Danger

Since the implementation of “sanctuary cities” tension between law enforcement and the policy holders has risen.

But that is not the only thing that has risen.

These refuges for illegal immigrants have provided a place for criminals to hide in plain sight, increasing lawlessness in the backyard of unsuspecting families.

There are almost 1 million illegal immigrants in Los Angeles alone, according to Pew Research.

Just this month, LA was declared a “sanctuary city” through a bill passed in City Council, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Although, nothing much will change concerning the way the city relates with ICE, because they have long been on the side of the non-citizen rather than the American people with the way they shut out ICE.

Government officials in the Golden State have not been cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain violent criminals who have been released from jail and prison.

Mayor Schaaf of Oakland even went as far as to warn illegal immigrants of an ICE raid before it happened so that the criminals could go back into the general public before being detained for their crimes, as Mommy Underground has previously reported.

The argument among liberals is that maintaining sanctuary cities for undocumented immigrants to disregard federal laws would allow them to live without fear of deportation so they will use more social services that the American people pay for.

Liberals also claim that when undocumented immigrants are not fearful of local law enforcement and those in office, they will be more apt to report crime.

Well, that hasn’t been the case. Undocumented immigrants have not helped to report crime or reduce crime.

In fact, since more cities have become sanctuaries for those who want to disregard the law crime among illegal immigrants has increased.

The left has been hiding behind skewed statistics and false assumptions, but now one law enforcement officer is speaking out about the facts – and they are alarming!

Orange County Sheriff Don Barnes tweeted about how the data for his jurisdiction shows a spike in recidivism because of the sanctuary laws.

Barnes sees how Senate Bill 54 has compromised the safety of his communities, and tells NBC 4 how this has happened:

The law has resulted in new crimes because my deputies were unable to communicate with their federal partners about individuals who committed serious offenses and present a threat to our community if released.”

Barnes refers to sanctuary laws as a “two-year social science experiment” that “must end” in a tweet that has gone viral.

The tweet continues:

Rather than protect our immigrant community, the law has enabled offenders to be released, often times back into the immigrant communities they prey upon, and create new victims.”

Barnes shares the shocking statistics from Orange County Jail last year where 1,507 inmates with “ICE detainers” were released, with only 492 of them actually being transferred to ICE officials; the remaining released inmates were exempted.

ICE detainers are for those undocumented immigrants who were jailed for the “most seriously violent” crimes, Barnes said on NBC 4.

Out of the 1,015 inmates exempted from being notified to ICE, Barnes tells us, 238 of them were arrested again shortly after for committing crimes again in the county.

These weren’t innocuous crimes with no apparent victims either. The charges of the repeat offenders include assault and battery, rape, and robbery.

The year before didn’t yield any better results. Barnes states:

In 2018, there were 1,823 inmates in the county jail who had ICE detainers. The sheriff released 823 of them to federal authorities as allowed by the law, but another 1,106 were released and 173 committed new crimes in the county.”

Senate Bill 54 went into effect on January 1, 2018 and Orange County has been worse off for it ever since.

It would seem that other counties have probably suffered similar crime shifts due to violent offenders being released without ICE being notified.

Governor Gavin Newsom (D) of California has only perpetuated the growing concern among families by passing bills that have given illegal immigrants more rights, protecting those who have shown no respect for federal law or the process of becoming a citizen, over the American people.

The left has revealed their agenda through their blatant neglect of protecting the hearts, minds, and bodies of American families.

Hopefully through the unwavering voice of conservative leaders we will see a shift in the drive to see criminals get the justice they deserve and our neighborhoods get the protection they expect.
