One often thinks a child lacks the creative startup to come up with a constructive use of their time when they complain of being bored.

The problem may not be that they are bored, but they are looking for an attention getter to find direction for a feeling they can’t quite explain.

Giving your child ideas about a good use of their time is a nice start, but dive a little further and ask what they “feel” like doing, or what type of things they are in the mood for.

This opens the door to a discussion on their state of mind prior to the being bored rambling and may provide just the interaction with you that they were craving.
