Fox2Now reported on a young man in 2016 in Missouri who wanted to take a selfie with a gun while his parents were out of the house:
“The Overland teen who shot himself in the chest and died last week was attempting to take a selfie when the gun went off, the Overland Police Department said.”
DaMontez Jones was home alone with his three brothers when the horrific accident occurred.
It is believed that the gun was sitting on a shelf in the closet without a safety lock. Jones was taken to the hospital, but later died, according to Fox News.
There have been several reported deaths from people posing for a selfie with a gun.
Loaded guns are not photo props. Using proper gun safety while handling firearms is essential to doing your best to prevent accidents.
When taking a selfie, focus is shifted from your environment to yourself. This can cause you to be in more danger than you think because you are not aware of your surroundings.
