- Showcase the little things
We all spend copious amounts of time in the car these days, going to soccer practice, school events, and countless other outings.
Use this time wisely by pointing out things you pass, like “Isn’t God great to give us all these colorful leaves to look at.”
Or, it can be discussing the destination saying something such as, “You are a great soccer player, I am thankful you try so hard.”
Don’t let a moment of gratitude pass by, because of being too busy, or too distracted. Take a moment to instill thankfulness in all things.
It is easy to remember to give thanks on a day called Thanksgiving, but what about all the other days of the year?
Dr. Carter, the gratitude expert, says “Researchers have found that people who practice gratitude feel considerably happier (25 percent) than those in a control group.”
She then adds,
“They are more joyful, enthusiastic, interested, and determined. Grateful people are more likely to be both kind and helpful.”
What parent wouldn’t want a happy and kind child?
Set time aside in the family schedule to focus on being thankful, this will remind our children to do the same, long after they leave the home.
Try one or more of these fun family acts of thankfulness this season, and continue the ones your family responds the best to.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Please let us know in the comments section if you have a way your family likes to show thankfulness, or if you have tried one of the acts above with success.
